What can I say but WOW! What I experienced was incredible. Archery hunting elk in the rut has got to be the most exhilarating hunt I have ever been on. I saw more elk on the first day than I had on all my other elk hunts combined. Your exceptional knowledge of the area and the elk had us inside the herds continuously. I have to mention the the day we had two big bulls fighting in front of us and tow small bulls so close behind us I could hear them breathing. Now that’s that’s getting up close and personal. Just wanted to drop a quick note and tell you how much I enjoyed the turkey hunt in New Mexico. Accommodations were great, Super Dave was a phenomenal host and cook, and the guides were all courteous, professional and competent.
A special note on Vince. What a very fine gentleman he is. A dedicated sportsman, great instincts, great eyes and ears, friendly, immensely competent and a good leader to the other guides. I’ve been a big game hunter for quite a while in a lot of places, but I really enjoyed the vibe of your team.
I retired after 20+ years on active duty. Before transitioning to a JAG after law school, I was an infantry officer with a lot of down range time. Vince ran that hunt camp like the best reconnaissance platoon I ever led.

I went into this hunt being completely new to using an Outfitter. It will not be my last. My previous hunting experiences have always been DIY. Using Diamond Outfitters has given me a totally different respect for the guide community and what is expected of them by the hunter.
I came into my Oryx hunt with certain tools (binos/gun/tripod) but not a completely understanding of how to use them. I let Daniel Drown (my guide) know that the entire hunt I would be asking questions. I now feel so much more prepared on how to use my binos/tripod for long range glassing when I hunt out west again. Thank you to Devon Mclean, Vince Martinez, and Daniel Drown for helping me ensure that my rifle, and Huskemaw Advantage were put to good use, and I had a complete understanding of how the scope worked. Again, this was a tremendous educational experience on learning more about the tools that we as a hunter have at our disposal. Lastly, I want to just thank the entire Diamond team for their hospitality. I realized that using a guide is more about hospitality, two-way respect, and building relationships.

An amazing bear hunting experience. This was my first western hunting experience and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Pat and Dan Drowns did an amazing job getting me on four distinctly different bears while there for my hunt..They did an amazing job on their end, unfortunately I didn’t hold up on my end. Pat was a great guide and teacher whether it be about bears, glassing, or the huge elk we saw (he called one in to 15 yards from where we were glassing) Camp was amazing and all the guides were great to be with. I was lucky enough to unexpectedly draw a non-resident antelope archery tag in Unit 10. I signed up with Diamond Outfitters for what proved to be the wettest August monsoon AZ has seen in recent memory. My guide, Logan, who has a vast knowledge of Unit 10, got us into at least one, if not three, good opportunity stalks every day. Impressive given there was no ability to stalk upon water (as it was everywhere), Logan was a pleasure and a great person to spend 17 hours a day glassing, driving, and sneaking through the brush. We connected with a great buck. I would certainly sign-up with Diamond again if I was lucky enough for lighting to strike twice and draw another AZ tag.

This was a great hunt that Diamond Outfitters provided. My guide and his associate provided me with a quality hunt in which I saw numerous bulls, several shooters, and quality time in the field. The guide was mindful of my age (70) and my health situation and they worked with me to insure I had a safe, but quality hunt. They did not press me to take any particular bull and they were very familiar with the bulls in the area. Most importantly, the guides were just as excited as I was about my hunt and the bull that I was able to take at the end of the second day. Great experience for me. After speaking with a number of outfitters to book an elk hunt I decided to go with Diamond Outfitters. I chose Diamond Outfitters because of Dan Adler’s straightforward answers to questions. He promised a great hunt and that’s what I got. We saw plenty of elk and a bunch of bulls. We passed on smaller or broken bulls. There was never any pressure to shoot or not to shoot any bull. My guide stayed optimistic and upbeat. We hunted hard all day for four and a half days. We got our bull on the morning of the last day. Camp was great with plenty of good food and good fun. My guide, Daniel Drown knew what he was doing and kept getting us on bulls. We were in shooting range of at least a dozen different bulls before taking one. He was easy going and allowed me to hunt at a pace I felt comfortable with. Jason and Keegan, the other Diamond guides in camp were great as well. It’s always nice to get a trophy, but this experience would have been fun even if we had not taken a bull. Looking forward to hunting with Diamond Outfitters in the future.

I have been using Diamond Outfitters Application services the past 3 years. This year we drew a Coues Deer hunt in AZ. Having never hunted in AZ, nor ever seen a Coues deer on the hoof, I didn’t know what to expect. As soon as we arrived at camp we were greeted by our guides and confident our guides had strong knowledge of the unit. Over the course of the 5 day hunt myself and hunting partner both had opportunities at great bucks. The guides worked extremely hard to find animals and turn up pockets that others weren’t looking in. Our hunt was a great success overall and we will certainly be coming back should we be fortunate enough to draw a tag again

I chose a Ranch Only hunt as I am 60 years old and wished to have a less physically demanding hunt being a flatlands from Texas. This hunt was everything I could have hoped for. I saw elk everyday with several being a quality trophy status. I took a very nice 5×5 scoring 272″ on the last day in blizzard conditions. This was the hunt of a lifetime to be remembered forever. Coming from Maine, this was my first experience doing a true western hunt and it was nothing short of amazing! My guide was super knowledgeable and a great guy! The cook didn’t a great job making sure we had hot coffee and breakfast in the mornings and delicious dinners to recharge our batteries every night. I rolled into camp with a tent and cot all set up for me and didn’t have to lift a finger truly a first class experience that I’ll never forget and I’m going to be forever grateful for!

The bull elk hunt at Big Bo Ranch was incredible, successful, and extremely well-managed by Diamond Outfitters. The accommodations, the guides, the food and the comradery of the hunters and guides was most enjoyable. I learned more on this hunt than I have in 28 years of hunting in Arizona;
I give all the credit for this memorable experience to Brandon Reynolds, who is the best of the best I have very hunted with, or ever expect to hunt with again. Brandon has the expertise and passion to hunt that no one else could exceed. At age 70, I make that statement from a considerable perspective.
Hunting is what I came to do, with no expectations whatsoever. As of Sunday morning, I was the only hunter to take a shot and kill a bull. That can only be accredited to Brandon Reynolds and his assistant/intern Bradyen. They took me places that I would guess no other guide would venture, especially with a physically fit but 70 year-old man. (Brandon thought I was “50.”LOL!) I have been weight training and doing heavy cardio/cycling for a year, and I am in the best shape of my life, but could barely keep up with Brandon and Brayden as we climbed mountain after mountain to get a 1,000+ yard glassing view of the canyons, where the bulls were hanging. The only reason I got a shot is that Brandon took me where most others could not or would not go; then we glassed for hours until we found my bull, only thanks to the glassing diligence of Brandon and young Brayden.
The shot was taken at 330 yards about 5 minutes before shooting time ended. We spotted the bull 25 minutes prior to the shot, but he was several hundred feet below in the canyon, feeding on a large Cliff Rose, but facing me straight head-on.
My Remington 300 Ultra Mag is equipped with a Leupold VX 6HD 5-24 scope with a 52 MM tube, so its light-gathering capabilities are second to none. (Bruce Pettet, CEO of Leupold – sold me the optics at his “cost.”) The CDS turret was custom-machined for the ballistics of my REM 300 Ultra Mag Core Lokt cartridge (180 grain Power Level 3). I have two boxes of the discontinued Remington 300 RUM cartridges since November 2008, when I took a bull at 354 yards uphill on angle, with the same rifle in New Mexico. One shot, through the heart. That bull also did not move one inch. The scope in 2008 was cheap Nikon optics and I had the ballistics/holdovers taped to my stock.
This hunt, I had two other cartridges with me and two other custom Leupold CDS turrets: Nosler 300 RUM 210 grain and Swift Scirrocco 300 RUM 180 grain. The Rem Core Loky cartridge is very flat with 3,250 FPS muzzle velocity and the Core Lokt bullet does impressive devastation.
I waited for the bull to turn broad-side, but he would not move, and there was no time to change position. I took the less preferred shot as he slightly turned 15 degrees and aimed across the middle of his back on a 30 degree downhill angle. As it turned out, the entry wound was exactly here I aimed and buried in his right rear quarter. It was strange: after the shot, he did not move an inch from his position in the near-dark conditions. It appeared he was standing straight toward but his head was clearly down at the Cliff Rose bush he was feeding on. We thought it was a miss, and I told Brandon, I did not want to take another shot on that angle at the last minute of shooting time and wound him, with several minutes left before shooting time ceased. We decided to come back Saturday morning to that area, where two smaller bulls were hanging with him. My bull only appeared late Saturday afternoon, while the two smaller bulls meandered in the same area early Friday afternoon.
Saturday morning, we hiked for 2.5 hours up and down several mountains in an opposite direction around the canyon where we I took the shot. We glassed from a rock cliff/peak that overlooked the opposite direction of the canyon from which I took the shot on a hill, 1200 yards away.
About 10:30, I was gassing near where I took the shot and had just noticed a white spot, at about 950-1000 yards. Brandon and Brayden were on top of the cliff glassing on a different angle and came down to me: said they think they found my bull. He was lying exactly where I shot him and in the same position, 975 yards across the canyon. Two hours later, we got to him. Brandon and Brayden worked their butts off to field dress the bull. Before that, they hoofed up the hill I shot from and found my brass.
Two horus after they quartered the bull and portered half the meat for an hour- across several hills and back to a remote road, where they called your guide Ryan to meet us with his truck. Ryan, Brandon and Brayden then tracked one hour back and forth to retrieve the head and the rest of the meat. It was 25 degrees and 7 PM before we began the return to camp. Brandon spent hours caping the head and hanging the meat. He worked until 10 PM. Everyone at the camp offered congrats.
On Sunday morning, Brandon stayed behind as everyone left for the hunt at 5:30 AM. He helped to pack my vehicle along with Alec Gydette, your cook. I cannot adequately express how much I appreciate Brandon Reynold’s expertise, passion for hunting, and his making this the most enjoyable hunt of my lifetime.
Brandon said that it was the most interesting hunt of his career, and he also learned a great deal. What we both learned is that when you shoot a bull in the nearing darkness with an unsuppressed 300 RUM – and he does not move one inch – he is most certainly dead. Regardless, it was a blessing: we would not have been able to retrieve him to camp before 3 AM at 23 degrees; and we would have taken a chance that he would jump and run if wounded. I made the correct decision to not take a second shot and we made the right decision to come back in the morning and see if I missed.
I gave Brandon a $1,000 cash tip and your cook Alec $150. I trust that you will reward Brandon for an exemplary guiding experience. I only hope two things: I have an opportunity to hunt with Diamond Outfitters again and it is with Brandon Reynolds as my guide. In my opinion, he is the “A-team” of hunt guides and I will never forget what he did for me.
By the way: I received a “masters level” education on hunting and Arizona history from your colleague, Matt Woodward. What a great and intelligent guy. Turns out that his Aunt – Sandy Poch – worked with my wife at the Desert Foothills Medical Center in 1994-96 (Boulders). I met his famous Uncle, Mike Poch at several picnics. And I lived off several of the golf courses Matt and his relatives built. He needs to write a book on Arizona hunting, archeology, and Scottsdale golf course construction history.

Just a quick note to tell you Jeff and I had ‘hunts that aren’t supposed to be”! Jeff tagged out the first morning with Bryan. Then he and Bryan accompanied me, Mike and Layne and I tagged out just before 8 am the second day on a lion we ran off a calf kill when we arrived at the ranch. Whoa! Mike Harris is a bona fide lion hunter. He will work as hard as you can work to get a lion and then some. This is an extremely tough hunt so get in shape before considering it. Hunted with Diamond Outfitters on a Sonora Coues and Mule deer hunt in January of 2023. Took two great trophy animals in the 7 day hunt. Hunting was tough but so enjoyable. My Guide was Franco and was probably one of, if not the bust guide I have ever used, and I have use a lot!! Was very knowledgeable about the area and had the best eyes for spotting that I ever witnessed. Because of the vegetation and terrain, these deer are extremely hard to see at long distances. Franco was able to see things that I could not and I fancy myself pretty good at spotting animals. He was completely next level. These guys are great to work with and hope to use them again. When I do go again I will request Franco for sure because of his abilities. And also a great young man, great to spend a week with. Thank you Diamond!!!

Smartest decision I made was going with Diamond Outfitters after a couple years of over-the-counter DIY elk hunts in Colorado. My guide had been scouting for 3 months prior to my hunt, knew the area like the back of his hand, and found us lots of animals. Each hunter in camp had a very large comfortable two men tent, a nice breakfast each morning, then good hot evening meals. Always plenty of good snacks, water, and Gatorade in camp. This was the most memorable hunting experience of my life. I shared it with my son, my best friend and two of the finest young folks I’ve come across in a very long time, along with Boss Dan.
Happenstance had it one day this year. My friend and I were out scouting an area in preparation for the Arizona early Bull elk hunt. After 20 years of applying we finally drew the “Golden Ticket”. We stopped at a camp to say Hi and exchange pleasantries. It was here we met Dan Adler and a few of his guides and clients. What a bunch of standup guys! We talked about our upcoming hunt and Dan was so helpful in explaining the elk routine during the rut along with passing on tips on how to successfully hunt them.
Dan offered his guide service to us if we had an interest. He assured us that we would have a memorable hunt and enjoy the knowledge and professionalism of his staff. Having never utilized a guide service, my friend and I were uncertain if this was a good fit for us. Giving thought to our age and the reality that we likely would never draw this tag again we decided to communicate with Dan. After several conversations we decided to book Diamond Outfitters services for our hunt. It was the right choice!
A few other things fell into place as well: The two guides were absolutely amazing! The guides knowledge and ability was something we had never experienced. He knew the country and the animals. It was uncanny how he could tell the size of the bulls by their bugle and the directions they were moving. Both of these fellas were so polite, personable and energetic. Serious about taking care of their client as well. We all had a great time. My friend harvested a very nice herd bull with a chocolate brown rack. Other team members started showing up, jumped in and helped finish the field dressing.Two days later; approximately 6:00 pm. (cold and drizzling) we were on a nice bull. Shot rang out and our second bull was down. A 6 x 7 with a big spread.
About Dan Adler: Approximately 10:00 pm still cold and drizzling, we (me, my son, two guides and my friend) were close to finishing field dressing my elk. Here comes Dan with his freighter pack frame! Dan jumped in and helped finish up the field work. We all loaded up and made our long trek back to the vehicles. We got back to camp at 1:30 am. The next morning we made our way to the game processor and taxidermist. What a memorable hunt!

As I am now 61 years old, it was on my bucket list to hunt elk out of a remote setting. It was a wonderful experience for me being able to push myself but not over what I could handle. Getting to rent a rifle and then shoot my elk at 550 yards was amazing. Arriving 2 days early to get used to the altitude was a plus since I live at 450 ft. above sea level. The guides and management were all great and ready to help someone else as soon as their first client tagged out. My guide Dylan was not afraid to take his pickup in the roughest terrain he could find to get away from people and into where the bulls were. Even when in a dry year I was still able to take a tremendous bull and it will look great beside the fireplace at my whitetail camp in PA. Thanks again for a great hunt and a special thanks to Paul and Tim for helping get my bull out.

Paul is a great guide; he is knowledgeable about the area, mule deer, and day to day planning. He had all the right equipment, great strategies for hunting canyons, intuition, was able to adapt to difficult hunting situations, accommodate my partners physical abilities, extremely well organized, “studied” the hunt every night, was a patient teacher to a hunter new to western hunting glassing techniques, allowed me to use his Best of the West rifle (to make a single 565 yard kill shot – woohoo!!), recruited the help of his awesome son Nate, and taught me how to skin/cape a deer (including a great tenderloin) without gutting the animal! There was great comradery (I felt as if I was among friends rather than hired a guide). He took the best photos I’ve ever seen (made the Diamond Holiday card that year)! I really, really enjoyed my coues deer hunt! It is beautiful country and an elusive animal. If I had done a DIY hunt, I would have been shut out. My guides glassing abilities were fantastic and essential to my hunt success. His unparalleled knowledge of the area was also key to my success. We saw several bucks and I missed my first opportunity, but then took a really nice buck at 580 yards. I will say that the Coues deer is a challenge and the hunt was more enjoyable than I thought it would be, largely because of the challenge. I would recommend Diamond Outfitters to any hunter.

Diamond Outfitters is a class act. I had a great trip from start to finish. When the rut is slow and you’re still on elk every day, and even multiple times a day, that says something. We saw more shooter bulls than I could imagine. Sleeping quarters were great. Nothing got wet even when it rained a few days. The food was absolutely amazing. The ability of my guides to spot these very difficult animals was impressive (Coues Deer). This is a very relaxed style of hunting with many hours spent glassing. If possible, I would encourage Coues hunters to have high powered optics as the deer are as difficult to see (even when you know their location) as any mountain game I’ve hunted. A spotting scope is essential too. Thanks for a great hunt and pleasant camp life!

Diamond Outfitters made my dream come true. I always wanted to shoot an elk at long range. When the guides spotted a giant elk at 950 yards across on the other mountain it was a moment I will never forget. The intense pressure of shooting 950 yards, with 3 people watching and all the practice and preparing for this trip for five years was all in me making this shot. I put the blue diamond scope on 950 and my guide said slow, easy trigger squeeze. The 168 grain Berger vld hit that elk in the neck and he never even got up out of his bed. Diamond Outfitters and guides made my hunt of a lifetime, one I will always remember. Thank you very much.

Guides are there to put you in the best place for the opportunity to harvest an animal, they cannot control the weather, or what other hunters will do. My Guide asked me what I was looking for and put me in the best spot possible to harvest that animal. The camp was comfortable and clean. Food was good and anything you could want was available. Our hunt was challenged by the hot weather and no rain but I always felt my guide had total control of my hunt. He made sure that I enjoyed the hunt every day. He and I laughed at my failures and I had fun hunting every day. My son and I both harvested Elk on the 13th day of our hunt. Hunt conditions can be beyond the control of the outfitter and I would encourage everyone who is fortunate enough to draw an Arizona archery elk tag to allocate 14 days to the hunt. For my son and I it was the hunt of a lifetime and I hope to live long enough to do it again. Kudos to our guides and outfitter! We were out of state hunters and we would not have been successful without Diamond Outfitters.

Hi Dan: I had a great hunt with Layne in unit 22. We saw nothing but Coues deer the first day but located a shooter early in the morning of the second day. He was in a group of 3 bucks feeding on a ridge across from where we were glassing about a 1000 yds away. After deciding to go after them, off the ridge we went down into a wide arroyo and up the other ridge to get within range of the largest of the 3 deer.
It was an uphill shot at 525 with the buck quartering away to the right and facing uphill. I held low on the ribcage and unfortunately hit him a little low in the right ham angling up into the body cavity. At the shot, he humped up and took 1 jump down hill and piled up in brush just below him. I can’t say enough about Layne’s skill’s as a guide and an outdoorsman. He is a credit to your outfit and I am looking forward to hunting with him again in the near future!

We tagged out the first morning of our hunt. Our guide was obsessed with getting us what we wanted, which was a big bull elk. When we got there the day before our hunt, he immediately took us out to spot for elk so we we didn’t feel like we were going out the next morning blind. The communication from Dan and Matt Prior to my arrival was without a doubt top notch. Everything from applying for tags, to gear lists. When I left home to travel to Southern Arizona I had Zero doubts I was in good hands. The camps were meticulous, the cook tent was very clean, fresh sani-huts, guide headquarters were neat, clean, and quiet. Diamond Outfitters hires only proven guides with proven equipment. Hunting in rough remote areas, being prepared for everything is always a concern. All of Diamond’s guides were prepared for everything. Everything from more than enough water to portable air compressors. Even spare ball joints and tools to replace parts in the field. We saw game every day. I knew it was just a matter of time and patience before I would have the opportunity to fill my tag. Post kill care of my animal was perfect. We had zero problems with immigrant traffic in southern Arizona on this hunt. Dan’s Best Of The West shooting school was a home run. First class outfit. I will be hunting with them again and will be referring friends and clients.

Because of all the fires in Arizona this year, this was a tough unit to hunt in but Layne, our guide, did a great job and we took a nice mule deer on the second day of the hunt. It was awesome!
